The SGW Security Gateway Bypass Cable is required hardware for flashing 2018 and newer Ram Cummins 6.7L trucks. Ram’s Security Gateway Module (SGW) blocks third-party tools from talking to the ECM over OBD-II — this cable restores that communication so you can flash.

A short harness with a green SGW Bypass connector body and a small 2-pin lead — not a plain OBD-II plug.

How to install (2018+ Ram Cummins)

  1. Turn the truck off — ignition OFF, keys out.
  2. Locate the bypass connector — in the driver’s footwell, find the large white multi-pin connector above the OEM OBD-II port. Do not unplug the factory OBD-II port itself.
  3. Prep the cable — most Nano Torque cables are plug-and-play. If yours requires CAN wire moves, follow the pinout that shipped with your cable.
  4. Plug in the bypass — seat the green SGW Bypass connector fully into the white SGW slot until the locking tab clicks. It only fits one way — don’t force it.
  5. Secure the harness — optional zip-tie so it doesn’t hang or rattle.
  6. Leave it installed — you can keep the bypass in place permanently. Then connect your tuning tool to the OBD-II port and flash as usual.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Tool won’t connect → confirm the bypass is fully seated in the connector above OBD-II
  • Still blocked → double-check you’re not only plugged into the OBD port, and that the locking tab is engaged
